My name is Francesca Moauro and I am a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) committed to helping people to eat well and live a healthy lifestyle. I have a BSc in Health, Exercise and Physical Activity and an MSc in Human Nutrition, both awarded at St. Mary’s University in Twickenham. I am also a qualified level 2 and 3 personal trainer. My BSc in Health, Exercise and Physical Activity gave me the opportunity to understand and deepen a number of competencies and skills related to the incidence of chronic diseases, psychological models and tools that promote a behaviour change (e.g. goal setting and motivational interviewing), clinical exercise physiology, health promotion and exercise science. During my MSc in human nutrition, I added to my knowledge notions of biology, biochemistry, the interaction between inadequate nutrition and the consequent incidence of chronic diseases and how to apply and promote the scientific principles of nutrition within a community, especially focusing on the application of energy and nutritional recommendations for specific target groups ranging from pre-conception, pregnancy, infant, childhood, and adolescence to old age. I had the pleasure of working both in a community-based setting and as a personal nutritionist for a young athlete suffering from diabetes. My work experience helped me to achieve an excellent understanding on how to work directly with clients, how to enable and empower an individual to improve their health by creating a client-centred approach, therefore being able to build a rapport by exploring preferences, experiences and values meaningful for the client in order to adopt, enjoy and maintain an improved lifestyle and overcome the barriers. My years of study and experience guided me to understand my vocation, helping the community to embrace changes towards a healthier lifestyle and an enhanced nutrition in order to improve the quality of life and general wellbeing. I strongly believe that the physical wellbeing of an individual is the sum of a number of factors and hence being qualified to tackle all these factors would give me a more comprehensive spectrum on how to promote health and possibly prevent diseases, disability and death within a community.
