Amy Grant

Amy Grant

Edinburgh, UK

I am 19 years old and currently studying Physical Education at Edinburgh University. I became a swimming coach after I had spinal surgery and found it was a good opportunity to continue to participate in sport. I enjoy being a swimming coach as I think everyone should have the opportunity to become a confident swimmer and I love supporting my swimmers to reach their goals. I stand out as a swimming coach as - through my experience in teaching Physical Education at high school level - I have developed my confidence in knowing what to teach and how to teach it. I understand that everyone learns differently and I have the experience of knowing how to adapt lessons to suit individual learner needs so that my swimmers have positive experiences. I am very approachable, enthusiastic and calm which works well in swimming lessons as I create a welcoming, safe and fun environment. I have been teaching for almost 3 years alongside very experienced teachers and this has developed my knowledge of what to look out for and how to fix it. I have experience in teaching children of all ages, those with ASN and adults as I always put myself up for new challenges.

UKCC LEVEL 2 Swimming teaching

I swam for Hearts and have maintained my relationship with the club by teaching with them since I gained my first teaching qualification. I also played netball up to Edinburgh district level. My biggest achievement was getting an unconditional for Edinburgh University to do Physical Education in which I have significantly developed my skills and grown as a person.

My clients will develop their BLABT skills across all of the strokes to perform an exceptional technique. They will always have a fun lesson that makes them enjoy coming to swimming and will encourage them to be lifelong participants in the sport and across all physical activity. If they are younger and just starting to learn how to swim, I focus on developing their confidence and building a positive relationship with swimming and their confidence with being in the water. With older/adult clients, I will always discuss what they personally want to achieve and I will work above and beyond to make sure they achieve these goals.
